about

Jasmin Schaitl is an internationally active visual artist, performer, organizer, lecturer, and graduated in 2012 at the University of applied Arts, Vienna. Since 2019 she is part of the working group at the Angewandte Performance Laboratory in Vienna.  She also shares her approaches to performance through leading workshops in universities, institutions and performance festivals all over Europe. From 2021 to 2022 she was co-leading the INTRA Research Project WITHDRAWING THE PERFORMER together with Charlotta Ruth at the University of applied Arts Vienna.

For several years she is developing artistic, performative methods that combine the sense of touch, the theme of memory and contemplative practices. Since 2021, her focus is on participatory, multisensorial formats for exhibitions/performances that allow people to engage actively to co-create what is being experienced. Her drive to create art shifted to creating low-threshold frameworks that allow for a processual and specific reflection and contemplation of past, positive, individual experiences (memories). The experiences aim to be reactivated through the artworks for and with the participants, emphasising their individual agency.

Jasmin Schaitls work has been supported through several national and international Institutions e.g.: Austrian Federal Chancellery Section Art, various Austrian Cultural Forums worldwide, KAAI Theater Brussels, workspacebrussels, SeMA Nanji Artist Residency Seoul (KR), Ex Teresa de Arte Actual (Mexico), Bludny Kamen (CZ), klub solitaer e.V. (DE), WUK Vienna, Bildrecht GmbH (AT), Tanz*Hotel | Artist at Resort (AT), im_flieger (AT), KOÏNZI-Dance e.V. Hamburg, and others.

Her Duo-Monography “Entering Continuities” was published together with Matěj Frank by ATHENA-Verlag (co-published by the Academy of Art and Design, Wroclaw) in 2019. It includes numerous solo- and duo works of both artists in picture and texts, as well as articles from six international authors about their duo- and solo-works.
